Defra is developing a 'Third Sector Strategy'.  The term Third Sector is used to describe the Voluntary and Community Sector, including organisations such as Social Enterprises and Not for Profit organisations like Registered Social Landlords.

The Defra consultation sets out their priorities, their vision and objectives for working in partnership with the sector, future of grant funding, as well as detailing common goals such as:

  • Creating a suppportive environment for a healthy and environmentally sustainable third sector
  • Enabling voice and campaigning
  • Strengthening communities
  • Transforming public services and
  • Encouraging social enterprise and environmental entrepeneurship.

You can download a copy of the consultation document below, but you have to be quick as it ends on 22 February.

Advantage West Midlands has also asked local strategic partnerships to comment on their proposals for the next Rural Regeneration Zone, which will focus on economic exclusion.  A summary of their proposals can be downloaded from this page.

And finally we also have been sent a summary of the nattily named 'Subnational Review of Economic Development' which looks at treasury proposals to give local authorities greater powers to influence economic regeneration in their area.  The Government Office for the West Midlands GOWM will be working with the Regional Assembly and AWM on pulling together a plan that will work for the Region.
